What this site is
Xinjiang Attractions publishes English-language travel guides to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Our material is aimed at independent travellers who need to know how to get somewhere, when to go, what a place is actually like on the ground, and what it costs. We do not publish paid destination promotion, and we do not accept payment in exchange for a favourable review.
Who writes for us
Our guides are written and edited by the editorial team behind this site, working with local contacts in Xinjiang and with travellers who have recently returned from the region. Where a guide draws on a particular person’s experience, that is stated in the text rather than implied. We do not invent credentials, and we do not publish under the name of a person who did not write the piece.
How we research
Every guide begins with primary sources rather than with other travel blogs. Depending on the subject, this means:
- Transport operator timetables and official ticketing channels, including China Railway and regional coach stations.
- Scenic-area administration notices for opening hours, ticketing policy, vehicle rules and seasonal closures.
- Prefecture and county government portals for administrative boundaries, elevations and public infrastructure.
- Museum, heritage and nature-reserve publications for historical and ecological claims.
- Direct contact with hotels, drivers, guides and shop owners where a detail cannot be confirmed in writing.
Where two sources disagree, we say so in the article instead of silently picking one. Where a figure is an estimate, we label it as an estimate. Where something changes seasonally, we give the months rather than a single date.
Drafting and editorial review
Research and drafting are accelerated with software tools, because a single guide can require tracking dozens of timetable and ticketing changes. That is a production method, not a substitute for judgement. Every article is reviewed by a human editor before publication, and the reviewer is responsible for the accuracy of the published text: place names, distances, elevations, opening hours, prices and administrative facts are all checked against the sources listed above. No article goes live without that review.
Photography
Photographs published on this site come from our own contributors and from licensed or openly available image libraries. We do not publish images carrying a third-party watermark or a commercial logo. Where a photograph is a representative view of a landscape type or a similar location rather than a photograph taken at the exact place described, the caption says so and the alt text is written to describe what is actually visible in the frame. We do not caption a picture as a specific protected area, species or building if we cannot confirm it is that subject.
Corrections
Prices change, timetables are revised, and areas close for maintenance. If you find something in our guides that is out of date or simply wrong, tell us through the contact page and include the page address. We verify the report against a primary source and, where it holds up, correct the article and note the date of the change. Substantive corrections are made at the top of the affected section rather than quietly deleted, so that readers who relied on the previous version can see what changed.
Advertising and independence
This site is supported by display advertising. Advertisers have no influence over what we cover, how we rate a destination, or what we recommend. We do not run sponsored posts.
